WASHINGTON — Three Things to Know:

  • Drying out tonight
  • Bright but breezy for Monday
  • Bitter wind chills for Tuesday

Forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear and cold. Lows: 20-25. Winds: NW 5-10.
Monday: Mostly sunny, breezy and quite chilly. Highs: 35-40. Winds: S 10-20, G35.
Monday night: Very cold and breezy. Lows: 10-15. Winds: NW 10-15, G25.

The sky will be clearing as we head into Sunday night behind the latest passing storm. Temperatures will drop into the 20s.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be sunny and quite chilly. The winds will pick up as an arctic front moves through during the afternoon. Be sure to enjoy the bright conditions but you will want to bundle up if you are going to enjoy the day because the wind chills will be pronounced throughout the day. The true arctic air will move in Monday night into Tuesday with wind chills in the single digits by Tuesday morning. By Tuesday afternoon, it doesn’t warm up much as wind chills stay in the teens.

It is a relatively quiet week across DC with sunshine and slightly milder temperatures as we go through the middle to end of the work week. However, we are tracking our next weather system for next weekend along with perhaps the coldest air of the season so far. There are still a lot of questions about how cold it will actually get and whether we’ll get any snow from it. Right now, the potential exists for very cold air and some wintry precipitation around, so stay tuned.
