WASHINGTON — Three Things To Know:

  • Turning cooler and unsettled this week
  • A few showers south Tuesday
  • Tracking more rain Wednesday into Thursday

Forecast:

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy and quite chilly. Lows: 35 – 45. Winds: Light.
Monday: Mostly sunny and pleasant. Highs: 59 – 64. Winds: NE 5 – 10.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy and still chilly. Lows: 37 – 47. Winds: NE – 5.

Weather Conversation:

The cool and crisp autumn air lingers into this upcoming week, eventually turning even cooler and unsettled.

Monday looks nice with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. An area of low pressure looks to pass south of the area on Tuesday, keeping us mainly dry. You may notice extra clouds around on Tuesday, and perhaps a few showers well south of DC. Highs will only be in the 50s.

The best chance for rain will arrive late Wednesday into Thursday. Another area of low pressure will move through the area bringing breezy winds and rainy conditions. High temperatures will fluctuate between the 50s and 60s as the system passes by, and the rain will exit just in time for Halloween. Trick-or-treating time on Halloween looks mainly dry with chilly temperatures in the 50s.

Hurricane Melissa is a monster of a storm in the Caribbean. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the entire island of Jamaica. The slow motion of this storm will lead to prolonged, heavy rain that could cause significant flooding and mudslides. The storm is an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane and could grow into a Category 5 storm.  It is forecast to make landfall over Jamaica Monday night into Tuesday morning.  The storm is forecast to make a second landfall in Cuba late Tuesday before blowing through the Bahamas. The good news is this storm will stay out to sea away from the U.S.
