DC Forecast | Finally starting to warm up around DC

WASHINGTON — Three Things to Know: 

• Still cold tonight, wind chills near 0 through Monday morning

• Milder temperatures this week, into the 40s

• Staying rather dry this week

Tonight: Clear and very cold. Lows: 2-15. Winds: NW 5-10.

Monday: Partly cloudy, not as cold. Highs: 30 – 35. Winds: NW 5.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and much milder. Highs: 42-49. Winds: SE 10-20.

The cold is about to retreat and we just have to get through one more cold morning across the DMV. A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of the DMV with wind chills as low as -8° until 10 a.m. Monday. Expect temperatures to be in the single digits and low 10s to start the day on Monday but we will start to warm things up into the afternoon. The sun will return and temperatures will climb above freezing for DC and areas in Virginia. Areas in Maryland like Hagerstown, Martinsburg, and Westminster may hover close to or just under the freezing mark on Monday. Winds will be much lighter and it makes for a more comfortable day. If you like Monday, you’ll love Tuesday with temperatures returning close to average for this time of year. Temperatures will be into the mid 40s for most areas but in Virginia, temperatures could get close to 50° in some spots. 

A warming trend this week will certainly help begin to melt some of the ice that is piled up across DC. The only issue is that when there is melting that takes place, your window to act and make some progress is small before it refreezes and seizes up again during the overnight. With any melting that does occur, it also heightens the potential for falling ice from condos and tall buildings, so be mindful as you’re walking around town. Temperatures this week look to be into the 40s for Tuesday and Wednesday with a slight cool down for Thursday and Friday. Our next chance of some widespread precipitation could come next Sunday but a lot could change between now and then, including the timing of when that arrives.
