WASHINGTON — Three Things to Know:

  • Tracking storms Wednesday night
  • Cloudy and cool Thursday
  • Tracking showers & storms Easter weekend

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, breezy and warm, some p.m. storms. Highs: 82 – 87. Winds SW 10 – 15.
Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy and warm. Showers and storms. Lows: 54 – 62. Winds: SW 10 – 15.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy and cooler. Stray showers. Highs: 55 – 70. Winds: E 10.

After a mild start to Wednesday, it will be another warm afternoon with high temperatures in the mid 80s. The record high of 85 at Dulles is in jeopardy. While the day will start nice and partly cloudy, showers and storms will develop after 3 p.m. and continue into the late evening hours. A few storms could be on the stronger side with heavy rain and gusty wind, though the risk for severe weather remains low.

A lot of cherry trees along the Tidal Basin have started to leaf out, causing the pink petals to fall, and that will be the case again Wednesday thanks to the very warm temperatures. What the heat doesn’t take care of in terms of the last of peak bloom, the showers and storms will. By Thursday there won’t be much in terms of blossoms left along the Tidal Basin.

Thursday will be a cloudy and much cooler day thanks to an easterly wind. Many areas will stay in the 50s and 60s for high temperatures. While cloudy, most of the day will still be dry with the exception of a few stray showers west of D.C.

Good Friday will feature more sunshine and warmer temperatures back in the 80s – great for the Nats home opener at 1:05 p.m.! There is only a low chance for a stray shower or storm Friday.

Easter Weekend will start off nice with partly sunny skies and warm temperatures Saturday, before showers and storms arrive late Saturday night into Sunday morning. You may want to hold off on Easter egg hunts until later in the day on Sunday once the showers and storms have ended.
