Drama in the Love Island USA Season 8 villa is just starting to heat up, but viewers will have to find something else to do tonight because there won’t be a new episode on Wednesday, June 17.
The latest season, which premiered on Peacock on Tuesday, June 2, has seen Islanders come and go in their search for true love in Fiji. Several bombshells have also entered the villa to stir the pot and shake up the current couples, but just as the drama is ramping up, the show has paused.
So, why the sudden break? Here’s everything you need to know, including why Love Island USA isn’t on tonight.
As it turns out, Love Island USA isn’t on tonight because the hit reality dating series doesn’t air new episodes on Wednesdays. This midweek break allows cast members a day off after a demanding six-day filming schedule.
Kem Cetinay, winner of Love Island UK 2017, previously revealed on the daytime talk show The Morning that the Islanders must follow strict rules on their day off, including refraining from talking about the show.
“They get one day off a week,” Kem explained, per Metro. “What happens is it gives them a day to clean the villa, and you take your mics off, and normally, we go to the beach, and we just chill out. Not a lot of people know this.”
He continued, “What happens is when you take your mics off, you’re not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show. You’ve got to talk about home life. You’re being watched by an evil hawk, by the producers because they don’t want you to talk about what’s going on.”
“You can all sit and chat, but they are quite careful about what you talk about because they want to keep it so everyone at home can see and get it on video,” Kem added.
This likely applies to Love Island USA as well. Still, fans can look forward to new episodes six nights a week—from Thursday to Tuesday—dropping at 9 p.m. EST on Peacock. On Saturdays, instead of a regular episode, audiences can tune in for Love Island: Aftersun, a companion show offering exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes gossip from recently eliminated Islanders.
