Voters across the D.C. region are heading to the polls to vote today. Anyone who has not registered can cast an in-person provisional ballot with proof of ID.
Mail-in ballots in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia must be postmarked by today, November 3rd.
Polls in Virginia will close at 7 p.m. In D.C. and Maryland, polls close at 8 p.m. Voters who are in line by the time the polls close can still cast their ballots.
In Fairfax, Va., voters were trickling in just as the Government Center polling station opened. Voters said they were aware of the probable outcome for the region, which leans heavily toward Democrats, but they were eager to share their vote.

Amanda and Choung Le, two self-described moderates, said they were voting to show their children, who came to the polling station with them, that it’s important to vote in every election, no matter the anticipated outcome.

There are federal election monitors at polling stations across the country, as is standard. The Trump administration says there are no plans to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to the polls today. National Guard members deployed in D.C. are required to stay at least 50 feet from a polling places’ main entrance, according to D.C. officials.
