WASHINGTON — Three Things to Know:

  • Snow late Saturday into Sunday morning
  • Very cold Sunday and Monday
  • Wind chills in the single digits

Forecast:

Saturday Night: Light to moderate snow overnight. Lows: 20 – 30. Winds: N 5.
Sunday: Snow ends early-morning. Partly cloudy. Turning windy and very cold. Highs: 25 – 30. Winds: NW 10 – 20.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear and very cold. Lows: 12 – 19. Winds: NW 10 – 15.

Snow will move in after midnight Saturday night across the DC Metro, starting a bit earlier than that north and west. Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the Metro Area until 10 a.m. Sunday.

This will be a quick-hitting round of snow that falls overnight into the pre-dawn hours of Sunday. By 8 a.m., the last of the flakes will be clearing out of southern Maryland, and the rest of the day will feature some more sunshine, but it is very, very cold. Right now, 1 to 3 inches of snow seems likely around the I-95 corridor with a coating to one inch for surrounding counties to the south. Right now, the heaviest band of snow should set up along the I 95 corridor from D.C. to Philly. In some parts of that area, there will be some 4″ to 5″ totals. Strong and gusty winds pick up in the afternoon and arctic air will come rushing in. The wind chills for Sunday afternoon and evening will be into the single digits, so make sure you layer up and stay warm.

The bitter cold and gusty wind sticks around for Monday with wind chill values in the single digits and low teens Monday morning at the bus stop.

A warming trend begins on Tuesday with temperatures gradually getting warmer day by day until we are back in the mid-50s for Thursday and Friday. Beyond our Sunday snow, it will be a mostly dry week but there could be some rain showers moving in late Thursday night and into early Friday.
