Your mid-30s are weird. I’ve never felt more confident and secure in my own body, but at the same time, I can actively see my facial features changing. More wrinkles around my eyes (laugh lines!), sun spots (enjoying the outdoors!), and, of course, the dark under-eye circles (no way to positively spin this—I have an 18-month-old, so go figure). I brought up these concerns with my dermatologist, telling him I’m not ready for Botox or fillers yet, and so he prescribed Tretinoin, a prescription-grade retinoid that helps with skin cell turnover, collagen production, texture, acne, and fine lines—it’s basically the ultimate anti-aging cream in a bottle.
With that said, it’s a potent formula that still relies on having a solid skincare regimen, and I’ve had to make a few swaps in mine to mitigate some of the retinol “uglies” (aka, the side effects from retinol or retinoids, like sensitive skin, redness, and sometimes even breakouts). My derm recommended using vitamin C products (in conjunction with SPF) in the morning to not only help with the side effects, but to enhance my complexion (think brighter, younger, healthier-looking skin). Luckily, I found a skincare bundle that’s vitamin C-forward *and* contains SPF 50—so it’s everything I need, all in one.
Meet Rationale The Daily Glow Set.
Rationale The Daily Glow Set
Includes:
The Serum: Contains B-Group vitamin complex that hydrates
The Light Creme: A vitamin C-forward face cream which also contains a proprietary anti-glycation complex that locks in moisture and firms skin.
The Tinted Serum (SPF 50): An SPF serum that helps even out skin tone for a naturally dewy look.
This skincare set comes with three products: The Serum (step one), which hydrates skin. This part is really important because Tretinoin can be drying; The Light Creme (step two), which is a vitamin C-infused moisturizer that helps with brightness and giving you that healthy, glow-y IRL filter; and The Tinted Serum (step three), which is a lightly tinted serum with SPF 50 that gives you a bit of coverage while keeping skin protected from UV rays. All formulas feel incredibly luxe and have a light, citrus-y fragrance.

As a busy mom who has approximately five minutes to get ready every morning before drop-off and an hour-long commute, I love a curated skincare regimen that checks off all my boxes and needs. The serum feels deliciously hydrating, and after a few weeks of using the moisturizer, I can already see a difference in my complexion: It’s more even, and looks visibly brighter. Best of all, it doesn’t aggravate my skin, even though I apply Tretinoin every night.

In the photo above, the left photo is me wearing just the serum and moisturizer, and the photo to the right is after I apply the tinted serum. It’s definitely on the more subtle side of coverage—think very light and very natural. So if you need to cover up blemishes or any kind of discoloration (or are looking for a more high-coverage look), I’d recommend using a foundation as a fourth step. But for an everyday, your-skin-but-better finish, The Tinted Serum is perfect.

This is me after applying my everyday makeup (eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, some blush), minus the foundation. The times I’ve worn just the serum and moisturizer and opted for a foundation, I noticed zero pilling, so the formulas do play nicely with makeup.
If you’re looking for a no-stress skincare routine while on a retinoid or even retinol (the OTC version), I can’t recommend this set enough. Or even if you just need a regimen you don’t have to think about, that gives you glowing, hydrated skin, this bundle is worthy of your bucks.
