WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Sunday  Off and on showers are expected throughout the day as a coastal storm system moves up the coast, however; rainfall totals don’t look as high as originally thought.  Areas north and west of DC like Hagerstown, Frederick and Western Loudoun County may not get as much rain, but will still experience the breezy winds. The heaviest rain will be east of I 95. While rain is still expected at times, it will not rain all day. Winds will pick up too. Northeast winds will gust over 30 mph Sunday, with some gusts potentially as high as 45 to 60 mph near open water. With a high pressure system to our north and the developing storm moving up the coast we will see some beach erosion thanks to that persistent northeast flow.   We’ll also have coastal flooding in DC and along the waterways around Alexandria, Charles, and St. Mary’s.
